Never Forget: About Us
The Foundation
Today, the 60th republic day of India is exactly two months since 26.11.08.... when parts of Mumbai came under siege in an outrageous incursion. The audacity of the attack was in a sense a defilement which prodded most of us out of our inertia and out of the realm of inaction and mere rhetoric.
In these two months, nearly all of us have pondered about doing something for the nation. However, it has been challenging to figure out what specifically one could do, while not perturbing the mundane routine of our lives.
neverforget.in was engendered through such ruminations; from the spirit of moving from sluggish reaction to canny action to real change in the status-quo of our country.
The Idea
At the crux of this social initiative is our belief that the lacunae in our various administrative mechanisms were largely responsible for this situation and that most of them can be addressed if our elected representatives perform as per their promised agendas.
That said if WE, the people, who elect them, do not care to evaluate their performance periodically, WHO will be the appraiser of enforcement of promises?
We maintain that, as a collective force, we can work to keep track of what our elected representatives -- whether at the centre, state, city, town, district or village level -- promised us and how far the promises have been fulfilled.
At the heart of our endeavor is a system where citizens can pinpoint their representatives, view their listing of promises [click here to access] and keep tabs on their progression.
The First Cut
We have started from Pune, and you can see a list of promises of Shri Suresh Kalmadi, the sitting M.P. of Pune, at this page. [Our vision document has more details]
Where do YOU fit in
This system is incomplete without YOUR active participation. You can help in several ways, irrespective of your area of expertise or lack of it. For example, you can use forms such as these to post reports about the representative in your city or town or village.
So here it is, the opportunity to be a part of an experiment, if we may be bold enough to label, to bring a much needed transformation in the country. Are you interested in making a difference?
